At St. Ailbe's our further education sector provides a major avenue of advancement for you people and mature adults who wish to develop their standard of education. The sector places an emphasis on two areas, the area of further education and that of retraining or up grading of skills.

With regard to further education we hope to develop and improve on education already obtain and to develop that to a level at which life long employment can be achieved. The courses in this area are geared towards people who what to

get a nationally recognised qualification, within one year undergo training and receive recognition for that training achieve an award and use it to progress further.

As a result the two courses on offer within this area are Business Studies / Secretarial and Childcare, both Level II awards.

With regard to retraining we hope to develop new skills and improve on existing skill over a two or three year period. The course on offer in this area is geared towards people who have been

away from the work force for a long time have not had the opportunity, until now to enter the work force who want to get a recognised qualification at pace more suited to their ability.

The course on offer within this area is Office Technology Retaining with a Level I award being offered in year one and/or two, with the possibility of some Level II modules in year two and the progression to a third year for the completion of a full Level II award.

Who can apply?

Any student who has completed their Leaving Certificate, a mature student, that is, any one who wants to re-enter the education system, a VTOS candidate, that is, any person aged 21 or over, in receipt of any form of assistance from the government, other than supplementary welfare allowance, for at least 6 months.
