Admissions Policy.
The Education
Act 1998 Part 1 Section 6(e) objects of the Act states that the Act seeks “ to
promote the right of parents to send their children to a school of the parents'
choice having regard to the rights of patrons and the effective and efficient
use of resources”.
Section 1
Admission
Admission is subject to the
following conditions:

1.1 |
That, in
the professional judgement of the School Principal and following an
interview, the applicant is deemed suitable for admission to Saint Ailbe’s
provided adequate resources are available and subject to Health and Safety
limits.

1.2 |
That, in
the professional judgement of the School Principal, the applicant, because
of previous education, is considered likely to benefit from attendance at
Saint Ailbe’s.
Applicants
will not be admitted in the middle of a school year or in the middle of a
programme of studies with one exception, that being students relocating to
live in the school catchment area.

1.3 |
That the
applicant will contribute positively to the school, and not infringe, in any
way, upon the opportunities or rights of the students or staff of Saint
Ailbe’s.
|

1.4 |
The School
Principal shall admit all applicants except where the application is not in
accordance with the published admission policy of Saint Ailbe’s School.
|
|
1.5 |
All
appeals in relation to admission will be referred to The Board of Management
of Saint Ailbe’s School.
|
|
1.6 |
Students
wishing to transfer directly from primary school, having completed sixth
class, will normally be accepted provided adequate resources are available. |
Section 2
Responsibilities
Applicants have the following
responsibilities:

2.1 |
To
students, to
co-operate in the creation and maintenance of a suitable environment.
|
|
2.2 |
To
staff, to
fulfil all obligations to ensure the smooth running of the school.
|
|
2.3 |
To
school, to
respect the buildings and property and to ensure the school maintains a
respected position in the community as a whole.
|
|
2.4 |
To
the community,
to behave responsibly and respectfully in the community.
|
|
2.5 |
To
health and safety,
to ensure that the Health and Safety procedures and regulations are adhered
to.
|
|
2.6 |
Applicants
are obliged to make themselves aware of the rules and regulations of Saint
Ailbe’s School.
|
|
2.7 |
Successful
applicants must provide themselves with such uniforms, books, stationery,
equipment and materials as may be required by the School.
|
|
2.8 |
Applicants
who wish to repeat a year should first refer to Department of Education and
Science (Circular M2/95)
|
|
2.9 |
Exemption
from the study of Irish must be in accordance with Department of Education
and Science guidelines (Circular M10/94).
|
|
2.10 |
All
applications should be made at an early date, in any event not later than
first year enrolment/assessment day, as advertised annually. |
Section 3
Application
Application procedure are as
follows:

3.1 |
Application for admission to Saint Ailbe’s shall in the first instance be
made on an official application form.
|
|
3.2 |
Such
applications should be accompanied by the following documents:
|

(a) |
A
Primary School Student
Any other relevant information.
|
|
(b) |
A
Post-Primary School Student
Two recent school reports.
(Form SA/A2)
Birth certificate,
Any other
relevant information.
|
|
(c) |
Any
other;
Two recent school reports.
(Form SA/A2)
Birth
certificate,
Any other
relevant information.
|
|
3.3 |
Application forms are available in both English and Irish. |
|
3.4 |
An
incomplete application form will nullify the application.
|
|
3.5
(a)
(b) |
Failure to answer any section of the application form or failure to provide
correct relevant information may result in;
The
application being withdrawn.
An offer of a place being
withdrawn, even after it has been taken up.

3.6 |
The completed application,
should be submitted to The Principal, St.Ailbe’s School, Rosanna Road,
Tipperary Town. |
